STUDIO POLICY LETTER

Private Lessons – I offer weekly one-on-one lessons of 30, 45, or 60
minutes to piano and cello students. I encourage intermediate and advanced
students to take advantage of 45- or 60-minute lessons.  Beginning students
who would like to advance more quickly may choose to have two 30-minute
lessons per week.

Being Prepared for each lesson is essential! There are several ways in which
I expect my students to be prepared:
  • Make sure your written assignments are finished and your practice
    record is filled in.
  • Please come with clean hands and trimmed fingernails.
  • Be sure to bring all of your books and lesson materials to each lesson.
  • Save gum and candy for after your lesson.
  • Please be on time for your lessons. If I am still with another student,
please sit quietly until it is your turn.
  • The most important way to prepare for your lessons is to practice!
·
Practicing – Daily practice is essential in order to make progress. I expect
my students to have a regular practicing schedule. It is much easier to
remember and get your practicing done if you make it a habit. It is a good idea
to set aside a specific time each day for practicing. Here is a guideline for how
much time I expect my students to practice each day:
  • Beginning and elementary students: 30 minutes per day
  • Late elementary and intermediate students: 45-60 minutes per day
  • Late intermediate and advanced students: At least 60 minutes daily
·
Parental Involvement is essential, especially for young beginners. Your child will learn more quickly if you supervise his/her
practicing, and practice with him or her if needed. Please do not use practicing as a punishment! If you have a positive, excited
attitude about music, then your child will probably adopt that attitude as well. Parents may also choose to stay and observe their
student’s lessons.

Lesson Materials– All students will need the following materials for their lessons:
  • Music books
  • Lesson notebook
  • Theory book
  • Metronome
  • Flashcards (beginner and elementary students only)

Recitals will be held approximately every six months. Students will be expected to memorize their recital pieces and dress
appropriately. Parents, relatives, and friends are welcome to attend.

Tuition is due every month, and is based on your student's lesson length. Monthly tuition includes three private lessons and one
free
group lesson. Any materials I have purchased for you will be added to your tuition. A $5 late fee will be added for each week
that tuition is late.

Lesson Length                        Monthly tuition
30 minutes
        $39
45 minutes
         $60
60 minutes
        $78

Cancellations – Please cancel your lesson if you are sick! I expect at least 24 hours notice for any cancellations.
Please note: If you miss a lesson without contacting me beforehand to cancel or reschedule, you will still be charged for the missed
lesson. Being unprepared is not a good reason to cancel a lesson!
Refunds: I do not give refunds. If you cancel a lesson with me ahead of time, we can reschedule that week's lesson for another
time.

Holidays – There will be no lessons during major holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. However, holidays from
school do not necessarily mean you have a holiday from music lessons. If you plan on missing a lesson, make sure you cancel it with
me ahead of time.

Special Offers – For every new student who enrolls with me on your recommendation, I will give you 10% off your next month’s
tuition.
